Our Academy Council
I chose to become a Governor at my daughters' school as a way to give back to the community that plays such an important role in their lives. It's a chance to support the school; nurturing not just academic achievement but also the values of faith and kindness. I hope to help strengthen the partnership between families, the school and the Church; and ensure the school continues to thrive as a place where faith and learning grow together
Parent Governor
The Academic Year 2025 -2026 marks a significant change, as the decision has been made to begin to separate our governing body from Our Lady of Lourdes school. We remain deeply grateful to all those who generously give their time and expertise to support our school’s mission and values.
School governors play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of the school, offering guidance, oversight, and support to ensure every child can thrive. Their commitment helps uphold our Catholic ethos and ensures decisions are always rooted in the best interests of the whole community.
Our dedicated Academy Council continues to serve with renewed focus:
Chair of Academy Council: Mrs Catherine McGowan
I chose to become a Foundation Governor in retirement having spent a professional lifetime in Catholic Education. It was an opportunity to offer my time back and to share in the shaping of present and future Catholic education locally. I have the privilege of working with, and supporting, wonderful staff, pupils and parents.

I've recently joined the Academy Council at St Patrick's because I feel strongly about the importance of Catholic education. Our schools don't just teach knowledge; they nurture faith values and community. I currently work in a Catholic Secondary School, so I see first hand the difference this makes in young peoples' lives. I'm excited to support this same mission at St Patrick's and to contribute to the school's growth for the benefit of our children and families.

Apply To Be A School Governor
A few hours a month could change their life and yours
We all know that a good education can change a child's life forever. It's something that every child deserves.
But despite doing their best, schools face serious challenges to providing this in Kirklees. Governors provide much needed strategic support to schools, helping them to respond to challenges and plan for the future.
Governors make an essential difference
Drawing on their diverse life and career experience, governors help make schools more resilient and responsive to children's needs.
Governors make a valuable and appreciated contribution to their community, and the change that governors can help create makes it a particularly worthwhile volunteering opportunity for people looking to make a difference where they're really needed.
It goes without saying that being a governor is good for you as well. Governors can learn new skills, or use skills learned from their career or life in a new context, helping children and young people.
All sorts of people make great governors - whilst specific skills are appreciated, the only requirement is commitment to helping a school.
Think about it - could it be you?
